Activities
As many vacationers know, there are some destinations that simply don’t live up to their hype. They look great in the brochures, which convinces you to pack your bags and head out for what will be (you hope) your best vacation yet. After a few days, however, you’ve seen and done pretty much everything. The kids are bored, and you’re disappointed and trying to figure out how you are going to fill the remaining five days of your trip. Sound familiar? If so, maybe it’s time to come to Tahoe. Regardless of the time of year, there are a multitude of activities to enjoy that will appeal to youngsters, love birds, large groups, and the young at heart. Your biggest problem will be trying to figure out how to fit everything in before you have to go back home. Read on to discover why Tahoe is the place to be in the sunshine and the snow.
Summer Pleasures
Tahoe summers are every bit as idyllic as the ones you remember from your youth. The air is clean, the birds are singing, and the temperature is always just right. Once you arrive in this dreamlike setting, you’ll quickly discover that there are also a huge number of activities to keep you occupied during the sun-filled days and agreeably-cool nights. Spending an afternoon at the beach and wandering into the azure waters of the lake to cool off is a must, as is exploring the many hiking trails that cut through the Sierra mountains and provide panoramic views of the lake. Tahoe is also an adrenaline junkie’s dream – rock climbing, intense whitewater rafting, parasailing, and soaring are just some of the more adventurous activities people can enjoy here. Boating, fishing, and biking are great family pastimes, and a late night boat cruise with that special someone is perfect if you’ve come to Tahoe to recapture your spark. Of course, sometimes it’s the simplest activities – like gazing up at the star-filled sky or watching the sun slowly disappear over the horizon – that are the most memorable of all.
Winter Fun
Anyone who doesn’t like winter has never been to Tahoe! Forget spending your vacation cooped up and stuck indoors. Tahoe winters aren’t bitterly cold, so as long as you bundle up before you go out you should be quite comfortable. The skiing here is some of the best in the world. With 10 fantastic resorts, Tahoe offers plenty of variety for downhill enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Skiing may be Tahoe’s most well-known winter activity, but it’s certainly not the only one. Ever gone sledding? Visit one of the numerous hills in the area to discover the simple thrill of racing down an incline in a tube or an old-fashioned toboggan. How about ice skating? Whether you need to hold on to your sweetie’s hand or can do a flawless figure eight, this winter activity is always fun. For some high-speed action, rent a snowmobile and blaze some new trails through the Tahoe wilderness. No matter how you spend your day, sipping a mug of hot chocolate in front of a crackling fire is a perfectly relaxing way to pass a Tahoe winter night.
Year-Round Enjoyment
There are many signature Tahoe activities that can be enjoyed all year round. Browsing Tahoe’s quaint and unique shops is a pleasure whenever, and any time is the perfect time to schedule some pampering at one of the area’s lavish spas. A trip to the movies and some freshly-popped corn are always in order, and Lake Tahoe’s exciting casino nightlife is just as hopping in the dead of winter as it is during the height of summer. Festivals are a big part of the social scene in Lake Tahoe, and there are exciting events happening every month of the year. Stop by the Festival of Trees in December, watch the Bard’s work come to life during the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival in August, or attend the Kings Beach Snow Festival Parade in March. If you can’t fit everything in, don’t worry. You can always come back to Tahoe to relive your favorite experiences and take part in some new ones.
